لجيانا lajiyānā S̱. (from लज्जा) v. n. To be abashed, to be ashamed.

لال lāl S̱. 1. (r. लल Wish for, or लड Sport) adj. Darling, dear; s. m. An infant boy, a son. 2. (लाला) s. m. Spittle, saliva. 3. s. m. The name of a bird. (The male of Frin- gilla amandava). لال بجهکڙ lāl bujhakkaṛ, An intelligent person; one who comprehends quickly, or who readily divines what has happened or is to happen from certain symptoms; but, the term is generally used ironically for a wise- acre, an ignorant foolish person who pretends to more sense than his neighbours; as, in the following answer given by a person of this de- scription, when consulted respecting the marks of an elephantʼs feet in mire, by people who had never seen such an animal: يـﮩ توبوجهي لال بجهکڙ اورنه بوجهي کوي پاين چکي باندهکرمت هرنا کوداهوي Yih to būjhe lāl bujhakkaṛ aur na būjhe koʼe; pāyan chakkī bāndhkar mat harnā kūdā hoʼe. Lāl Bujhakkaṛ and none else can understand this; may not an antelope with a millstone tied to his feet have bounded here?

لا lā A A negative or privative particle, No, not, by no means, without, there is not; or, like the English negative prefixes, un, in, ir, im. لاابالي lā-ubālī (lit. I care not) adj. Careless, insolent, fearless, licentious, petulant. s. f. Carelessness. لابد lā-budd (لا and 3d pers. sing. pret. pass. of بدّ To separate) 1. adv. Necessarily, infallibly. 2. adj. Unavoidable. لابدي lā-budd-ī, adj. In- evitable, necessary. لاتعد lā-tuʼaﻌdd, That can- not be numbered. لاثاني lā-s̤ānī, adj. Incom- parable. لاجرم lā-jaram, adv. Necessarily,

لاله lāla P s. m. A tulip. لاله رخ lāla-ruḵẖ or لاله رخسار lāla-ruḵẖsār or لاله عذار lāla-iﻌẕār, adj. Tulip-cheeked, red-cheeked. لاله رنگ lāla-rang, adj. Tulip-coloured. لاله زار lāla-zār or لاله ستان lāla-sitān, A bed or garden of tulips.
