اسگنده asgandh S̱. or isgandh (अश्वगन्धा from अश्व Horse, and गन्ध Smell) s. m. Name of a plant used medicinally. (Physalis flexuosa. Pers. عروس درپرده).

آتو ātū H s. f. A female teacher or a governess.

ابناس a-binās S̱. (अ and विनाश Annihilation) s. m. Exemption from loss, safety.

ادهرا udhrā H adj. Opened, undone, unrolled (as the seam in a garment, or thread which was rolled up in a clue).

استٰماع istimāﻌ A (inf. viii. of سمع) s. m. 1. Hearing, listening (to musick, &c. particularly). 2. Tidings, report, rumour, what is heard.

اپشبد अपशब्द apa-shabd S s. m. A disagree- able sound, wind broken backwards, ungram- matical language.

انوکها anokhā S̱. or anūkhā or anaukhā (see انوٿها) adj. Rare, uncommon, wonderful. (Generally applied to man.)

اگنا ugnā S̱. (उत् and r. गम Go) v. n. To grow, to be produced, to spring (as plants), to rise (as the moon). اگتي هي جل جانا ugte hī jal jānā, To be withered immediately on springing up (is applied to a hope or expecta- tion which is blasted in the bud).

اختفا iḵẖtifā A (inf. viii. of خفا Heb. He concealed) s. m. Act of hiding, concealing, covering.

اکاج a-kāj अकार्य्य S̱. s. m. 1. Hurt, injury, loss, detriment, prejudice. 2. Uselessness.
