فرط fart̤ A s. Excess, superfluity, abundance.

فليته falīta A. (corrupt. from فتيله) s. m. 1. Match, torch, wick, fusee. 2. A wick com- posed of paper inscribed with mystick words, by inhaling the smoke of which demons are said to be expelled from those possessed. 3. A cord of twisted thread sewed between the two folds of the hem of a garment to strengthen it. فليته دار falīta-dār, 1. A matchlock. 2. Any thing that has a match or wick. 3. Cloth hemmed with a cord (فليته falīta, q. v.).

فتور futūr A (from فتر) s. m. 1. Weakness, in- firmity. 2. (Hind.) Quarrelling. ¶ fitūr (dakh.) Treachery, deceit, artifice, fraud, contrivance.

فتحه fatʼḥa A s. m. The vowel pronounced as the English a in the word America, or the French e in le.

فو fū A s. m. Valerian.

فاخته fāḵẖta P s. f. 1. A dove. 2. Name of a colour. فاخته اڙجانا fāḵẖta uṛ jānā, To be confounded, to faint. وه دن گئي جو خليل خان فا خته اڙاتي تهـي wuh din gaye jo Ḵẖalīl Ḵẖān fāḵẖta uṛāte the, The days of Khalīl Khānʼs prosperity (or splendour) are gone.

فاصله fāṣila A (from فصل) s. m. 1. Separating. 2. Space, intermediate space, interstice.

فرّاٿا farrāṭā S (see پهـرانا pharrānā, from r. स्फुर Start, throb) s. m. The sound of any thing rushing or fluttering in the air, a rush, a puff.

قيل fīl P. (from Pers. پيل Farh. Jah. Sans. पीलु Perhaps, from فال To swell, to be fat: Gol.) s. m. An elephant. (Plur. Pers. فيلان Arab. افيال). فيلبان fīl-bān, s. m. An elephant driver (or feeder). فيلخانه fīl-ḵẖāna, s. m. Elephant- house. فيلد ندان fīl-dandān, s. m. Ivory. فيل مرغ fīl-murg̠ẖ, s. m. A turkey. فيل نشين fīl- nishīn, One who rides on an elephant.
