ضبط ẓabt̤ A s. m. Government, direction, disci- pline, regulation, check, control, possession. ضبط کرنا ẓabt̤ karnā, To take possession, seize, confiscate, rule over, watch, preserve, restrain, control, check. ضبط هونا ẓabt̤ honā, To be taken possession of, to be seized, &c.

ضحيٰ ẓuḥạ̄ A s. See ضحا ẓuḥā.

ضعيف ẓaʼīﻌf A (from ضعف) adj. Weak, infirm, impotent, emaciated, feeble, faint, frail, old. ضعيف البنيان ẓaʼīﻌfu-l-bunyān, Frail of founda- tion. ضعيف الجثه ẓaʼīﻌfu-l-jus̤s̤a, Low in flesh, weak or emaciated in body.

ضمن ẓimn A s. m. 1. The cover of a letter. 2. The contents, any thing comprehended, contained or inserted, subject, an idea, conception. 3. Suretiship, an obligation. 4. Aid, favour.

ضرور ẓarūr A (from ضرّ) adj. Necessary, expedient, unavoidable; sub. The necessary.

ضابط ẓābit̤ A (part. act. of ضبط) s. m. A gover- nour, master, possessor, restrainer. ضابط الکلّ ẓābit̤u-l-kull, Omnipotent (God), lord of all.

ضبطي ẓabt̤-ī A. 1. s. f. Confiscation, sequestration. 2. adj. Confiscated.

ضلع ẓilﻌ A (Heb. ) s. m. 1. A side, part. 2. A district, a division. 3. A column (in the page of a book). 4. (in Hindūstān) The art of speaking with double meaning, so that the chain of both senses be uninterrupted through the dis- course. (This is called in Persian and Arabic تلازم کلام).

ضرب ẓarb A s. f. 1. A blow, beating. 2. Vio- lence. 3. Multiplication (in arithmetick). 4. Striking, emphasis. 5. Stamping, coining (mo- ney), struck, coined. ضرب دينا ẓarb denā, To coin. ضرب المثل ẓarbu-l-mas̤al or ضرب مثل ẓarb-i-mas̤al, s. f. A proverb. دارالضرب dāru- ẓ-ẓarb, s. f. The mint-office.

ضاحک ẓāḥik A (part. act. of ضحک Heb. and Ch. and To laugh) 1. Satyrist, mock- er, ridiculer. 2. Name of a poet.
