صوفي ṣūfī A 1. adj. Wise. (From Gr. sofos; or, from being clothed in woollen: Gol.). 2. s. m. A sofi or ṣūfī. (Pers. plur. صوفيان). 3. adj. Woollen.

صلات ṣalāt A (from صلا Ch. and To pray) s. f. 1. Prayer, benediction. 2. The first chap- ter of the ḳurʼān.

صغار ṣig̠ẖār A plur. (of صغير from صغر Heb. To be small) Small. صغاروکبار ṣig̠ẖār o kibār, The small and great, the populace.

صعوبت ṣuʼūﻌbat A s. f. Difficulty, hardship, trouble.

صيد ṣaid A s. f. Game, prey, animal pursued, fished for, &c. hunting, chase. صيد افگن ṣaid- afgan or صيد فگن ṣaid-figan, Killer of game. صيد افگني ṣaid-afgan-ī, Killing of game. صيد انداز يا باز ṣaid-andāz or -bāz, A sportsman. صيد بند ṣaid-band, A taker or binder of game. صيد بندي ṣaid-band-ī, s. f. Taking or binding of game. صيد گاه ṣaid-gāh, s. f. Place for game.

صدا ṣadā A s. f. Sound, tone, echo, voice, noise.

صفير ṣafīr A (from صفر To whistle) s. f. 1. Sound, whistling, a hissing noise, blowing, singing (as, of a bird). 2. A sapphire.

صيقل ṣaiḳal A (from صقل) s. m. 1. Polishing, polish, cleaning, furbishing. 2. The polishing instrument. صيقل کرنا ṣaiḳal karnā, To polish, furbish, burnish. صيقل گر ṣaiḳal-gar, A polisher, furbisher, burnisher, armourer. A.P. صيقلي ṣaiḳl-ī, adj. Polished.

صہبا ṣahbā A s. Wine, especially red wine.

صافي ṣāf-ī A. 1. s. f. (from صاف) Cleanness, pu- rity. 2. Sincerity, candour. 3. A filter or cloth through which drinks, medicines, &c. are strained, a strainer. 4. part. act. (of صفو) Pure, clean, &c. See صاف ṣāf. صافي نامه ṣāfī- nāma, s. m. A general release, discharge from an obligation. See under راضي rāẓī.
