صفاٴي ṣafā-ī A. s. f. Purity, cleanness, clearness, perspicuity. صفاٴي بتاني ṣafā-ī batānī, To reject a petition without ceremony, to refuse flatly. صفاٴي کرنا ṣafā-i karnā, To make clean work of it, to accomplish fully.

صعوه ṣaﻌwa A s. A little bird, a sort of sparrow with a red head, or a starling.

صواب ṣawāb A (from صاب To hit the mark) s. m.

صلعم ṣalaﻌm A A mysterious word (added often to the name of Maḥammad) formed from the ab- breviation of the following words, صلي الله عليه وسلم ṣallạ-l-lāh aﻌlaihi wa sallam, The blessing and peace of God be with him.

صاف ṣāf A. (contract. of صافي part. act. of صفو Heb. To be clean or clear) adj. Clean, clear, pure, candid, innocent, downright, flat. صاف دل ṣāf-dil, adj. Of a pure heart, candid, frank.

صموت ṣamūt A adj. Silent.

صندوق ṣandūḳ A or ṣundūḳ, s. f. and m. A box, a trunk, cabinet, case, chest, coffer, coffin. (Plur. صناديق). A.P. صندوقچه ṣandūḳ-cha, s. m. A small box, a casket.

صيام ṣiyām A s. m. A fast, the act of fasting.

صداقت ṣadāḳat A (from صدق Heb. and Ch. Was just, true, sincere) s. f. 1. Sincerity, can- dour. 2. Friendship. 3. Truth.

صحره ṣaḥra A. for صحرا ṣaḥrā, q. v.
