شومڙي shūmṛī H s. f. A kind of fried food. A.P. شومي shūm-ī, s. f. Avarice, niggardliness.

شہنا shahnā P s. f. A musical wind instrument, a pipe, a clarion.

شيشناگ शेषनाग shesh̤-nāga S s. m. See سيش sesh̤, sign. 2.

شوشه shosha P s. m. 1. An ingot. 2. Chips, rub- bish, filth. 3. A particle, a part.

شہدا shuhdā H s. m. A rake, prodigal, debau- chee, blackguard, scoundrel, vagabond. شہدا شکسته shuhdā-shikasta, Ruined and wretched.

شاخ shāḵẖ P (Sans. शाखा) s. f. 1. A bough, branch (of a tree). 2. A horn. شاخدار shāḵẖ-dār, adj. 1. Branchy. 2. Horned. شاخ درشاخ shāḵẖ-dar-shāḵẖ, Branched out, or diffused. شاخ زعفران shāḵẖ-i-zaﻌfarān (lit. A twig of saffron) is applied to a proud person, who esti- mates too highly his own worth: so, Mīr says, نازچمن وهي هي بلبل سي گو خزان هي ٿہني جوزرد بهي هي سوشاخ زعفران هي

شکايت shikāyat A (from شکو) s. f. Lamenta- tion, complaint, accusation.

شاطر shāt̤ir A (part. act. of شطر) adj. 1. Wanton. 2. Clever, sly. 3. (substantively) A chess- -player. 4. A messenger.

شگفت shigift P or shikift, s. m. Wonder, as- tonishment.

شربت sharbat A (from شرب) s. m. 1. Sherbet, beverage, drink. 2. The dose of a medicine. شربت دار sharbat-dār, s. m. A servant who has the charge of the water, wine, &c. a butler.
