شتا shattā H adj. (dakh.) 1. See حراف ḥarrāf. 2. See مکاره makkāra. 3. See قحبه ḳaḥba.

شاقه shāḳḳa A (from شقّ To split, to tear, to be difficult) adj. Difficult, perplexing, trouble- some, severe.

شفا shifā A (Chald. To be quiet or tranquil) s. f. Cure, remedy, healing, recovery (from sickness), convalescence. شفا خانه shifā-ḵẖāna, s. m. An hospital.

شوميت shūm-iyat A s. f. Stinginess, niggardliness.

شوماري shomāri A (dakh) 1. adj. Slothful, lazy, indolent. 2. s. f. Sloth, indolence: see سستي sust-ī. A.H. شومڙا shūm-ṛā, m. adj. Ugly, miserly, ava- ricious; miser. A.H. شومڙي shūm-ṛī, f. adj. Ugly, miserly, ava- ricious; miser.

شعبده shuﻌbada P (improp. shaﻌbada) s. m. Sleight of hand, conjuration. سعبده باز shuﻌba- da-bāz, s. m. A juggler, a conjurer. شعبده بازي shuﻌbada-bāz-ī, s. f. Conjuration, sleight of hand, juggling, hocus-pocus.

شوال shauwāl A s. m. The tenth month of the Muhammadan year; on the first day of which the festival of Bairām, or īﻌd is celebrated, being the first day after the musalmān Lent; and, on this day it is customary to make presents, &c.

شريعت sharīʼaﻌt A (from شرع) s. f. 1. The laws of Muḥammad. 2. Law, justice, equity.
