سمر sumiri S̱. or sumira (r. स्मृ Remember) s. Remembrance.

سني sunn-ī A (from سنّة) 1. adj. Lawful. 2. s. m. An orthodox Muhammadan, who reveres equally the four successors of Muhammad; and, hence, called also chār-yār-ī. (The Turks are sunnīs; the Persians are shīʼaﻌs, q. v.).

سکمار सुकुमार sukumār S adj. Soft, delicate. See سکوار sukwār. S. سکن शकुन (a bird) sakun, s. m. An omen. A. سکن 1. sakin, s. m. A dwelling. 2. ¶ sakn, Inhabitants of a house.

سادهنا sādhnā S̱. (साधन r. साध Accomplish) 1. v. a. To familiarize gradually to any habit, to teach, to learn, habituate, accustom, to use, practise, regulate, to pacify, to correct, rectify, settle, fix or determine, to accomplish. 2. s. f. (1) The act of familiarizing by habitude, prac- tice. (2) Accomplishment.

سطر sat̤ar A s. f. 1. A line, row, rank, series, lineament. 2. Delineating, describing. سطربندي sat̤ar-bandī, s. f. Ruling, lines for writing on.

سم الکهار samu-l-khār A. (سمّ Poison, and فار A mouse) s. m. Arse- nick, ratsbane.

سنج sanj P part. act. (of سنجيدن) in compos. Weigher, examiner; as, نغمه يا ترانه سنج nag̠ẖ- ma- or tarāna-sanj, A measurer of sounds, i. e. a musician. ¶ sinj, 1. adj. Elected, chosen. 2. s. m. A choice. ¶ a. sunj (prop. sunuj) s. m. The red (ber) jujube tree.
