سلطان sult̤ān A (from سلط Heb. To have power, to rule) s. m. A prince, a sovereign, king, emperor, sultan.

سنکلپ संकल्प sankalp S s. m. A solemn vow or declaration of purpose. سنکلپ کرنا sankalp karnā, See سنکلپنا sankalpnā.

سمندر samandar P s. m. A salamander.

سر sar P s. m. 1. The head, top, pinnacle, origin, end, point. 2. Chief. 3. Inclination, desire. سرافراز sar-afrāz, adj. Exalted, promoted: see سرفراز sar-farāz. سرافگنده sar-afganda, adj. Head cast down. سرانداز sar-andāz, 1. s. A veil or coif which women throw over the head. 2. Any one who by way of blandishment or pride or from intoxication moves his head from side to side in walking. 3. adj. Bloody, san- guinary, intrepid, fearless, impure, active, in- genious; a thief. سرباز (سر and part. act. of باختن To play) sar-bāz, adj. Intrepid, risking oneʼs life or head. سربازي sar-bāz-ī, s. f. In- trepidity, risking of life. سربسته sar-basta, adj. 1. Closed, shut, hidden. 2. Inextricable. 3. Wearing a turband. سربسر sar-ba-sar, All, the whole, from one end to the other, entirely. سربلند sar-buland, adj. Eminent, glorious, ex- alted. سربلندي sar-buland-ī, s. f. Exaltation, eminence. سربمـہر sar ba-muhr, adj. Sealed. سرپيچ sar-pech or سرپيش sar-pesh, s. m. An ornament worn in the turband. سرتاج sar-tāj, A chief. سرتيز sar-tez, adj. Sharp-pointed. برسرحساب bar-sar-i-ḥisāb, On right terms, agreed. سرخود sar-ḵẖụd, adj. Independent, being oneʼs own master. سرخوش sar-ḵẖụsh, adj. Cheer-

سٿيا siṭiyā H s. f. A daughter.

سونا sonā S̱. 1. (शयन) v. n. To sleep; (met.) to die. 2. or in Braj saunā (स्वर्ण) s. m. Gold. سوني کا نوالا sone kā nawālā, An expen- sive banquet, a delicious morsel.

سجود sujūd A s. m. See سجده sijda.

سپاه sipāh P s. f. (used in the plur.) Soldiers, an army. سپاه پهرجاني sipāh phir jānī (implies) a revolt or treachery in an army. سپاه سالار si- pāh-sālār, A general, a commander of an army. سپاه گري sipāh-gar-ī, s. f. The military profes- sion, soldiership, tacticks.

سبيل sabīl A (Heb. and Ch. ) s. f. 1. A road, way, path, mode, manner. 2. Water distributed to thirsty travellers during the ten first days of muḥarram.

سپارش sipārish P or supārish (from سپردن) s. f. A recommendation, intercession.
