سمبا sumbā H s. m. A sponge-staff, a ramrod.

سراپرده sarā-parda P s. m. 1. A royal tent, a curtain (especially one suspended before the apartment of a sovereign). 2. See سرپرده sar- parda.

سوات स्वाति swāti S s. f. The star Arcturus, the fifteenth mansion of the moon. سوات بوند swāt-būnd, A drop of rain fallen when the moon is in that mansion which, if into a shell, is be- lieved to become a pearl. سوات ست स्वातिसुत swāti-sut, The issue of Arcturus, a pearl (from a popular belief that drops of rain, falling when the moon is in that mansion into shells, are converted into pearls; but, which turn to poison, if they happen to fall into the mouth of a serpent).

سيسر sesar H s. m. 1. The gripe of a bow. 2. Name of a play at cards.

سمدرسوکهہ समुद्रशोष samudr-sokh̤ S s. m. Name of a medicine (Convolvulus argenteus).

سانڐا sānḍā H s. m. Name of an animal resem- bling a lizard (the oil of which is said to have restorative powers).

سوگوار sog-wār P adj. Afflicted, sorrowful, in mourning, lamenting, mourning.

سارا sārā P adj. Pure, excellent, sweet-smelling, undefiled; as, عنبرسارا aﻌmbar-i-sārā, The most odoriferous ambergris. S. سارارتهہ सारार्थ (comp. of सार Pith, essence, and अर्थ Meaning) sārārth, s. m. Abridgment.

سوسن sosan A (Heb. from obsolete root To be white) s. f. A lily.

سمرتهہ samarth S̱. 1. (सामर्थ्य) s. m. Strength, power. 2. (समर्थ) adj. Capable, powerful.
