سونتهنا sūnthnā H v. a. 1. To strip leaves off vegetables. 2. To draw (a sword).

ساپن sāpin सर्पिणी S̱. s. f. A female snake.

سپاره sipāra P (contract. of سي Thirty, and پاره A piece) s. m. One of the thirty sections, or the thirty sections into which the ḳurʼān is divided. See سيپاره.

سولي sūlī S̱. 1. s. f. (शूला) An empaling stake. 2. s. m. (शूली) A name of Mahādeva. سولي دينا sūlī denā, or سولي چڙهانا sūlī chaṛhānā, To empale.

ستوا satūʼā S̱. s. m. 1. See ستو sattū. 2. adj. (applied to a kind of ginger) Pulverable, free from threads or fibres. ستوا سنکرانت satūʼā- sankrānt, The entering of the sun into Aries; on which day the meal of parched grain is dis- tributed to the Brāhmans.

سلام salām A (from سلم) s. m. 1. Salutation. 2. Peace, safety. سلام کرنا salām karnā, 1. To sa- lute, to hail, to accost. 2. To give up, to desist, to refrain, to bid adieu. سلامٌ عليک salāmuṉ aﻌlaika, Peace or safety to thee: سلامٌ عليکم sa- lāmuṉ aﻌlaikum (Heb. ) Peace, &c. to you (forms of salutation). سلام لينا salām lenā, To return the salutation.

سنبهارنا sambhārnā S̱. v. a. See سمبهالنا.

سرتا saritā S̱. (सरित्) s. f. A river (in ge- neral).

سانس sāṅs श्वास S̱. s. f. Breath, sigh. سانس الٿي ليني sāṅs ulṭī lenī, To gasp or draw in the breath (as, a person in agony). سانس بهرنا sāṅs bharnā, To sigh, to regret. سانس رکنا sāṅs ruknā, To be smothered or throttled. سانس روکنا sāṅs roknā, v. a. To suffocate, stifle.

سانحات sāniḥāt A s. plur. (of سانحه) Occur- rences, incidents.
