سگهڙ sughaṛ सुघट S̱. adj. Elegant, accom- plished, beautiful, virtuous.

سردوال sar- P or sir-duwāl (سر Head, end, and دوال q. v.) s. f. Reins of a bridle, headstall.

سلخ salaḵẖ A (prop. salḵẖ, from سلخ He skinned, took off) s. f. The end of the month, or the day of the new moon: the last day of such a month as has thirty days.

سليش श्लेष slesh̤ S s. m. A pun, a double meaning, an equivoque in writing or speaking; as, کيکرپاکرتارجامن پهل سا املا سيوکدم کچنارپيپل رتي تونتج Kīkar pākar tār, jāman phalsā āmilā; seʼo kadam kachnār, pīpal rattī tūna taj. (This seems to be a catalogue of trees; it also means) God has been kind to you; that which you de- sired is obtained; adore his footsteps; silly woman! leave not your lover for a moment.

سونرا sauṅrā श्यामल S̱. s. m. Soot, or any thing of a black colour.

سہلا suhlā H s. m. A kind of song.

سوجها sojh-ā H adj. Straight.

سوپان सोपान sopān S s. f. A ladder, a scale.

سپاه sipāh P s. f. (used in the plur.) Soldiers, an army. سپاه پهرجاني sipāh phir jānī (implies) a revolt or treachery in an army. سپاه سالار si- pāh-sālār, A general, a commander of an army. سپاه گري sipāh-gar-ī, s. f. The military profes- sion, soldiership, tacticks.

سکديو शुकदेव sukdev S s. m. The son of Vyā- sadeva, the author or narrator of the Bhāgavat and other Purāṇas.
