سفله sifla A or safila, adj. 1. Ignoble, mean, contemptible. 2. Stingy, miserly. 3. Envious. سفله خو sifla-ḵẖū, adj. Mean-spirited. سفله دان sifla-dān, s. m. A cup, or plate, to throw scraps, bones, &c. on.

سٿهوڙا saṭhoṛā H s. m. A sweetmeat, consisting of meal, sugar, ginger, spices, &c. (particularly given medicinally to childbed women, and dis- tributed, as caudle is, to gossips).

سنجهنا sanjhnā S̱. s. m. See سـہجنا sahajnā.

سوت saut सपत्नी S̱. s. f. Rival (wife), contem- porary wife. (One wife is saut to another).

سنديسا sandesā S̱. (संदेश) s. m. A message.

سوسه sūsa श्वास S̱. s. m. Gasping, panting.

سامان sāmān P s. m. f. 1. Furniture, apparatus, necessaries, instruments, tools. 2. Measure, quantity. 3. Understanding, reason, intellect. 4. Custom, habit, mode, order, proportion. 5. Opulence, power. 6. Probity. 7. A land- mark. سامان جنگي sāmān-i-jangī, s. m. War- like apparatus, ammunition. بي سروسامان be sar-o-sāmān, adj. 1. Destitute, indigent, help- less. 2. Stupified, brainless. 3. Immense, boundless, endless (applied to affairs).

سڙي siṛī H adj. m. Mad. See سري sirrī.

سطح sat̤ḥ A (from سطح Heb. To expand) s. f. 1. An expanse, a platform, a terrace, a flat roof. 2. Surface, superficies.

سکيلنا sakelnā H v. n. To shrink, to shrivel, to gather up (the limbs, as a tortoise).
