زرنباد zurumbād P s. Name of a plant, zedoary. (Curcuma zerumbet: Roxb. See As. Res. vol. xi.).

زيب zeb P (from زيبيدن) s. f. Ornament, ele- gance, beauty. زيب دينا zeb denā, To suit, to become.

زال zāl P 1. adj. Old, decrepit, grey-haired (man or woman). 2. n. prop. (or زال زر) The name of the father of Rustam, and son of Sām, son of Narīmān. He was called زال زر (zāl-i-zar) because he came into the world with white hair, and a red countenance; the former like that of an old man, the latter of golden hue.

زهير zahīr A (from زهر) adj. 1. Reduced (by sickness), thin. 2. Sad, melancholy, low-spirited. (Hunter).

زيرک zīrak P adj. Ingenious, intelligent, sa- gacious, penetrating, acute, shrewd.

زود zūd P adv. Quick, swift, soon, suddenly. زود رنج zūd-ranj, adj. Irascible, soon irritated.

زينه zīna P s. m. A ladder, stairs, steps.

زنخ zanaḵẖ P s. m. The chin, the pit in the chin.

زيد zaid A s. m. 1. Increasing, adding, aug- mentation. 2. n. prop. A fictitious name (as John Nokes, or Thomas Stiles, in English).
