دراج durrāj A (from درج) s. m. A partridge.

دري darī P s. f. 1. A small carpet. 2. A dialect of the Persian language, the origin and pecu- liarities of which are variously defined by Persian lexicographers. Some alledge its distinctive mark to be when the form of the word is com- plete, without contraction; as bugo, ishkam, Darī; go and shikam, Pārsī. Others make it the dialect of a certain district, comprehending Balkh, Bukhārā, Badakhshān, Marū-Shāh-Jān, and Bāmiyān. The name is by some said to be derived from dara, a valley among hills; which corresponds with its origin in Badakh- shān and the mountainous part of Kandhār. Others assert that it was spoken at the court of the monarchs of the Kaiānian dynasty, and derive the name from dar a gate or dargāh a

دگدگانا digdigānā H v. n. To chatter (as, teeth).

دانتي dānt-ī दन्त S̱. s. f. The tooth of a saw or other instrument, cog (of a wheel). دانتي پڙنا dāntī paṛnā, v. n. To be notched or indent- ed (the edge of a tool). دانتي دينا dāntī denā, To insist upon. دانتي لگنا dāntī lagnā, To have a locked jaw.

دوهاٴي dohāʼī S̱. or duhāʼī (from द्वौ Two, and हाहा Alas) s. f. 1. Crying out for justice, ex- clamation. 2. An oath, plaint (q. d. twice alas). دوهاٴي تهاٴي کرنا duhāʼī tihāʼī karnā, To make reiterated complaints.

دلو dalv A (Heb. ) s. m. 1. A bucket, an urn. 2. The sign Aquarius. 3. The hopper of a mill.

ديپ dīp द्वीप S̱. s. m. An island; a conti- nent, a region or clime of the earth.

دباکر dibākar S (दिवाकर from दिवा Day, and कर Who makes) s. m. The sun.

دسا سول disā-sūl S s. m. The quarter towards which it is deemed unlucky to travel on parti- cular days.
