ديوالي dewālī S̱. (दीपाली from दीप A lamp, and आली A row) s. f. A Hindū festival (ce- lebrated on the day of the new moon of kārtik: when the Hindūs, after bathing in the Ganges, or other river, put on their best attire, perform a srāddha, and at night worship Laksh̤mī. The houses and streets are illuminated all night: and, in Hindūstān, the night is universally spent in gaming).

Privy council chamber, cabinet-council. ديوان خانه dīwān-ḵẖāna, 1. A tribunal, an office. 2. A court, hall, hall of audience. ديوان عام dīwān-i-āﻌm, Publick hall of audience. ديوان پن dīwān-pan, s. m. for ديوانه پن dīwāna-pan, q. v.
