ديوالي dewālī S̱. (दीपाली from दीप A lamp, and आली A row) s. f. A Hindū festival (ce- lebrated on the day of the new moon of kārtik: when the Hindūs, after bathing in the Ganges, or other river, put on their best attire, perform a srāddha, and at night worship Laksh̤mī. The houses and streets are illuminated all night: and, in Hindūstān, the night is universally spent in gaming).

دهوا dhoʼā H s. m. A present of fruit.

دني din-ī S̱. (from دن) adj. Aged (generally ap- plied to animals).

دهگڙا dhagṛā H s. m. A paramour. دهگڙباز dhaggaṛ-bāz, s. m. An adultress. قاضي يا بخشي کا دهگڙ ḳāẓī- or baḵẖ- shī-kā dhaggaṛ, Independent of judge or gene- ral (an expression of pride).

دهيڙ daheṛ H s. Name of a bird. (Perhaps, for دهيل dahel, q. v.). ¶ dhīṛ (dakh.) See ڐهيڙه ḍhīṛh.

ديوراني dewrānī, dyaurānī S̱. or diwrānī (from देवर) s. f. Husbandʼs younger brotherʼs wife.

دستار dastār P s. f. A turband. دستاربند dastār- band, A servant whose business it is to make up the turband. دستارخوان dastār-ḵẖẉān, s. m. A tablecloth.

دره dara P or darra, s. m. A valley (especially between hills through which a stream flows), a pass or way between two mountains.

دهينو dhenū धेनु S̱. s. f. A milch cow.

دوش दोष dosh̤ S s. m. See دوس dos.
