دکهڙا dukhṛā S̱. (from दुःख) s. m. Misfortunes, calamities.

دنڐ दंड danḍ S s. m. 1. A stick, a staff. 2. Fine, penalty, punishment, castigation by amercement or putting to death. 3. (dakh.) See ڐنڐ ḍanḍ.

درنده daranda P or darinda, part. act. (of دريدن Tearing; (adjec- tively) Rapacious, fierce, ravenous; (subst.) Ravenous beast, beast of prey.

ديوال بند dewāl-band P. s. m. A soldier. See دوالي بند dūʼālī-band.

دٴي daʼī दैव S̱. 1. s. m. Destiny, the deity. 2. s. f. The godhead. دٴي لگنا daʼī lagnā, To be unfortunate. دٴي مارا daʼī-mārā, adj. Struck by the deity, accursed. S. ديا दया (r. दय Move, give) dayā, s. f. 1. A gift. 2. Affection, tenderness, sympathy, mercy, kindness, favour. ديا سيل दयाशील dayā-sīl, adj. Affectionate. ديا مان dayā-mān (दयावान्) or دياونت दयावन्तः dayā- want, adj. Charitable, merciful, kind.

دهوني dhūnī S̱. (from धूम) s. f. 1. Persevering. 2. Smoke. 3. A fire lighted by a Hindū faḳīr, over which he sits, imbibing the smoke, by way of penance. It is often practised by them, in the manner of dharnā, to extort compliance with their demands. Hence دهوني دينا dhūnī denā, To dun, to importune: to smoke. دهوني لگاني dhūnī lagānī, To insist obstinately, or to persevere in a demand. 4. Fumigation by way of exorcising one possessed; or, as a medical application. دهوني لينا dhūnī lenā, To inhale smoke, or undergo fumigation.

دماغ dimāg̠ẖ A s. m. 1. The brain. دماغ تازه کرنا dimāg̠ẖ tāza karnā, To be pleased. 2. (in Persian, also, damāg̠ẖ) Pride, haughtiness, conceit, spirit, fancy. دماغ چڙهنا damāg̠ẖ chaṛhnā, To be proud with excess of wealth. دماغ کرنا damāg̠ẖ karnā, To be vain, proud, haughty; or rather, to act proudly, &c. دماغ هونا damāg̠ẖ honā, To be vain, haughty, proud. P. دماغي 1. dimāg̠ẖ-ī, adj. Of the brain. 2. da- māg̠ẖ-ī, Vain, frivolous, conceited, proud.

دريا daryā P s. m. (in dakh. f.) The sea, a river, the waters. دريا دلي daryā-dil-ī, s. f. Sea-like expansion of heart; great liberality.
