دهڙکا dhaṛkā H s. m. 1. Fear, doubt, suspense. 2. Palpitation. 3. Thunder.

دهجا dhajā S̱. 1. (ध्वजा) s. f. A slip of cloth, a standard, a shipʼs pendant, a flag, banner. 2. s. m. See دهج dhaj.

دهوما dhūm-ā धूम्र S̱. s. m. The name of a co- lour (like that of smoke), purple.

دري darī P s. f. 1. A small carpet. 2. A dialect of the Persian language, the origin and pecu- liarities of which are variously defined by Persian lexicographers. Some alledge its distinctive mark to be when the form of the word is com- plete, without contraction; as bugo, ishkam, Darī; go and shikam, Pārsī. Others make it the dialect of a certain district, comprehending Balkh, Bukhārā, Badakhshān, Marū-Shāh-Jān, and Bāmiyān. The name is by some said to be derived from dara, a valley among hills; which corresponds with its origin in Badakh- shān and the mountainous part of Kandhār. Others assert that it was spoken at the court of the monarchs of the Kaiānian dynasty, and derive the name from dar a gate or dargāh a

دهوا dhawā H s. m. A cast of pālkī bearers, who are Musalmāns.

ديساوري desāwar-ī S or disāwar-ī (देशावरी Fo- reign) s. m. 1. A kind of betel-leaf. 2. A kind of dove.

دبستان dabistān P (contract. of دبير A writer, and استان Place) s. m. A school.

دهوپ धूप dhūp S s. f. A perfume burnt by Hindūs at the time of worshipping. دهوپ داني dhūp-dānī, s. f. A pot for keeping dhūp. H. S̱. دهوپکالا dhūp-kālā (from دهوپ Sunshine, and काल Time, weather, season) s. m. The hot weather.

Stool, purge, evacuation. دست افشان dast-afshān, Extending or moving hands in dancing, in re- linquishing any thing, in anger or in denying. دست آموز dast-āmoz, adj. 1. Tame, familia- rized, tractable. 2. Skilful, dexterous. دست انداز dast-andāz, 1. He who commences a business. 2. An oppressor, a plunderer. دست آويز dast-āwez, s. f. What a man takes with him as the means of promoting his suit; what a man gets into his hand and depends on; a small present which may be given into the hands of a person whose favour is sought, a signature, a note of hand, bond, title-deed, cer- tificate, &c. دست بدست dast ba-dast, 1.
