حصين ḥaṣīn A (from حصن) adj. Fortified, strong.

حک ḥakk A s. m. Erasure, scratching out. حک کرنا ḥakk karnā, To erase. حک هونا ḥakk honā, To be erased.

حذف ḥaẕf A s. m. Taking away, ejecting, cutting off a letter or syllable of a word, apo- cope, elision. حذف کرنا ḥaẕf-karnā, To omit, contract, reject, cut off or drop (a letter, &c.).

حسود ḥasūd A (from حسد) adj. Envious, malig- nant. ¶ ḥusūd, s. Envying, envy.

حلم ḥilm A (from حلم He dreamt, was mild and long suffering. Heb. To be fat, healthy, to dream: or, rather, transposed from To indulge, to spare) s. m. Gentleness, clemency, mildness, affability, gravity, wisdom. بي حلم be ḥilm, adj. Merciless, severe.

حکايت ḥikāyat A (from حکو or حکي To nar- rate, Heb. The palate; speech) s. f. A history, romance, story, tale, narration.

حسد ḥasad A s. f. m. Envy, malice, emulation, ambition. حسد پيشه ḥasad-pesha, adj. Envious.

حال ḥāl A (from حال Heb. Turned, passed, changed) s. m. 1. State, condition, case. 2. Business, affair, matter, circumstance. 3. Pre- sent time, the present. 4. Ecstacy. (Plur. احوال aḥwāl). حال آنا ḥāl ānā, To be in- spired, to be thrown into ecstacies. حال انکه ḥāl ānki, adv. Whereas, now that, since, though, yet, however, even, although, notwith- standing. حال پرسي ḥāl-purs-ī, s. f.
