جوانا jiwānā S̱. v. a. 1. See جمانا jimānā. 2. (causal of جينا) To cause to live.

جاٿهـ jāṭh यष्टि S̱. s. m. 1. The axis or roller of an oil or sugar-mill which presses the grain or the canes. 2. A post placed by Hindūs in the centre of a tank to mark its being dedicated to the deity.

جنب junub A adj. Defiled, polluted.

جلساٴي jal-sāʼī जलशायी S̱. (lit. sleeping on the water) adj. An epithet of Vish̤ṇu, when, after the destruction of the universe, he alone of all beings remains floating on the water, on a leaf of the baṛ or Ficus Indica, or on the great snake ananta.

جهمکا jhumkā H s. m. 1. The bell-shaped pendant of an ear-ring. 2. The wain, Ursa major. 3. A bunch of flowers or fruit. 4. Name of a flower.

جماد jamād A s. m. Whatever is incapable of growth, a stone, a fossil. Plur. جمادات jamā- dāt, Minerals, fossils.
