Dear, beloved. جان آفرين jān-āfarīn, Animator, creator of life (an epithet of God). جانباز jān-bāz or جان باخته jān-bāḵẖta, adj. Risking life, venturesome, da- ring, intrepid, spirited, mettled, mettlesome. جانبازي jān-bāz-ī, s. f. Risking life (in battle, &c.), intrepidity, mettle, spiritedness, working at any thing as if life depended on success. جان بازي کرنا jān-bāz-ī karnā, To risk life in a business. جان بحق تسليم هونا jān ba-ḥaḳḳ taslīm honā, To die, expire. جان بخش jān-baḵẖsh, Animating, lifegiving, forgiver of a capital crime. جان بخشي jān-baḵẖsh-ī, s. f. Giving of life, vivification, pardon of a capital crime. جان برحق تسليم کرنا jān bar ḥaḳḳ taslīm karnā, To expire, to give up the ghost. جان برهونا jān-bar honā, To survive, to outlive. جان بلب jān-ba- lab, adj. جهڙي jhaṛī H s. f. 1. Continued rain, showers, storm, wet weather. 2. Perquisites.

جوهر jauhar A (from Pers. گوهر) s. m. f. 1. A gem, jewel, pearl. 2. Skill, knowledge. 3. Matter, substance, essence (distinguished from accident). 4. Virtue, worth, merit. 5. Blackish marks in the steel of well tempered scimitars. 6. adj. Bright, glittering. جوهردار jauhar-dār, A sci- mitar marked with jauhar, q. v. جوهرکرنا jau- har karnā, To kill oneʼs self, to commit suicide. (When the Hindūs are attacked by a force too great for them to resist, they sometimes, in such cases, slaughter or burn their own wives and children, and then take to flight, or are them- selves slain; and, this act of killing their wives, &c. in such extremities, they call jūhar or jau- har).

جهلکا jhalkā S̱. s. m. A blister.

جهکاو jhukāʼo H (from جهکنا jhuknā) s. m. The state of being bent downward, stoop.

جوالا jawālā S̱. (from यव see p. s̱. جو jau) s. m. Grain mixed with barley as food for cattle.

جهونٿهر jhūnṭhar H s. f. Ground that produces two crops yearly.

جواهر jawāhir A s. m. (plur. of جوهر but used in either number) 1. A jewel, gem, &c. (Plur. جواهرات). 2. Essences, substances. جواهرخانه jawāhir-ḵẖāna, Jewel-office. جواهرنگار jawāhir- nigār, Ornamented with jewels.
