جنا janā S̱. 1. (जन) s. m. A person, indivi- dual. 2. part. pass. (of جننا) Born; a son.

جوهر jauhar A (from Pers. گوهر) s. m. f. 1. A gem, jewel, pearl. 2. Skill, knowledge. 3. Matter, substance, essence (distinguished from accident). 4. Virtue, worth, merit. 5. Blackish marks in the steel of well tempered scimitars. 6. adj. Bright, glittering. جوهردار jauhar-dār, A sci- mitar marked with jauhar, q. v. جوهرکرنا jau- har karnā, To kill oneʼs self, to commit suicide. (When the Hindūs are attacked by a force too great for them to resist, they sometimes, in such cases, slaughter or burn their own wives and children, and then take to flight, or are them- selves slain; and, this act of killing their wives, &c. in such extremities, they call jūhar or jau- har).

جهن jhun H s. f. A slight resemblance.

جوگيا jogiyā H s. m. 1. Name of a colour. 2. f. The name of a rāginī or musical mode. 3. A kind of pigeon.

جهاما jhāmā झामक S̱. s. m. Pumice-stone, bricks burnt to cinder. See جهانوان jhāṅwāṅ.

جمالي jamāl-ī A s. m. A kind of muskmelon (red-fleshed).

جلبـﮩ‍ي jal-bahī S̱. (from جل and بـﮩنا q. v.) s. f. Swimming, striking with the arms and legs in water.

جولاهه jūlāha P s. m. A weaver. See جلاه ju- lāh.

جيسا jaisā यादृश S̱. adv. or adj. In the manner which, as, what-like, such as, according as. جيسا چاهئيي jaisā chāhiye, As may be desired, as it ought, sufficiently. جيسا تيسا jaisā taisā, As well as, so so. جيسا کا تيسا jaisā kā taisā, Such as in the original, the self same, unaltered. جيسا که jaisā ki, As though, as if.
