جل jalla A v. 3. pers. past sing. (from جلال) Is eminent in majesty or glory. جل جلاله jalla jalālu-hu or جل شانه jalla shānu-hu, Eminent is His (Godʼs) glory or majesty.

جنت jannat A s. f. The garden, paradise. جنت آشياني jannat-āshiyān-ī, Whose nest (abode) is paradise; the deceased or late (king, &c.). جنة البلاد jannatu-l-bilād, The garden of the region (an epithet of Bengal).

Much, many. جـﮩ‍اندار jahān-dār, Ruler of the world, a king. جـﮩ‍انداري jahān-dār-ī, s. f. Government, empire. جـﮩ‍انديده jahān-dīda, adj. One who has seen the world, a great traveller, experienced. جـﮩ‍ازنسوز jahān-soz, adj. World- inflaming. جـﮩ‍ان گير jahān-gīr, World-taking, world-subduing. جـﮩ‍انگرد jahān-gard, adj. Going round the world; s. m. A traveller. جـﮩ‍ان نما jahān-numā, adj. Exhibiting the world.

جهانکنا jhānknā H v. a. To peep, to spy.

جهلمل jhilmil H (see جهرجهرا) s. m. 1. A kind of gauze. 2. A shutter, a venetian blind.

جوابي jawāb-ī A (from جواب) s. m. 1. A respon-

جهنجهلانا jhunjhlānā H v. n. To be peevish or fret- ful, to be petulant or irritable, to rage, to storm.

جهانجهـ jhānjh H s. f. 1. Anger, passion, pet, rage. 2. Stillness, dreariness. 3. Impatience (of hunger, or in a horse expecting his corn).

جنانا janānā S̱. v. a. 1. (causal of جننا) To de- liver, to bring to bed. 2. (causal of جاننا) To inform, to remind, to tell, to warn, to point out, to shew, to seem (used but little except in the Braj dialect; جتانا being more commonly adopted in this sense).
