اترنا utarnā S̱. (उत्तरण from उत् and r. तृ Cross over) v. n. To descend, to alight, to halt, bait, disembark, land, dismount, to subside, to de- crease, to pass over, to cross, to go off, to fall off, to decay, to fade, to flag, to be freed from debt, to become insipid, to flatten, to fall in value or in dignity.

اوترنا autarnā S. or avatarnā (from अवतार) v. n. To descend (as an incarnation of the Deity, &c.) on earth.

بترنا bitarnā S̱. (see بترن) v. a. To bestow.

بيترني baitarnī S (वैतरणी) s. f. 1. A river, according to the Hindūs, which is to be crossed by the dead on their way into the world of spirits, like the Styx of the ancients. 2. A river in Orissa.

ترنا tarnā S̱. (तरण r. तृ Cross, pass) v. n. To pass over, to be ferried; to be saved.

ترني tarnī S̱. (तरणि r. तृ Cross, pass over a river, &c.) s. f. A ship, a vessel, a boat.

چترنا chitarnā S̱. (r. चित्र) v. a. To paint.

کترنا katarnā S̱. (कर्त्तन r. कृत् Cut) v. a. To clip, cut (as with scissors), cut out, pare, shred, cut up. ¶ kutarnā, v. a. To cut with the teeth.

کترني katarnī S̱. (Sans. कर्त्तरी) s. f. Scissors.
