آسمان āsmān P (comp. of آس ās, A millstone, and مانند Like) s. m. The sky, the firmament, heaven, the celestial orb. آسمان پر قدم رکهنا āsmān par ḳadam rakhnā, To give oneʼs self airs, to aspire, to be vain. آسمان پر کهینچنا

آسماني āsmān-ī P adj. Heavenly, celestial, from heaven, sky-coloured, cerulean, azure. آسماني تیروغیره āsmānī tīr wa g̠ẖairah, An arrow, &c. shot in the air. S. اسمرت स्मृति (r. समृ Remember) ismirti or smr̤iti, s. f. The Hindū law.

اسم ism A s. m. Name, a noun. اسم با مسميٰ ism bā musammā, Name coinciding with the named, or name fitly denoting the qualities of the named. اسم جامد ism-i-jāmid, A noun pri- mitive. اسم جلالي ism-i-jalāl-ī, The name of God. اسم جنس ism-i-jins, A noun appellative or generick. اسم حالیه ism-i-ḥāliya, Present participle. اسم صفت ism-i-ṣifat, A concrete noun or adjective. اسم نویسي ism-nawīsī, s. f. A list or roll of names, a catalogue, file, muster- roll. (Plur. اسمأ asmā).

بسم الله bismi-l-lāh A In the name of God, or بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم bismi-l-lāhi-r-rahmāni-r-raḥīm, In the name of God the most merciful. (An invocation generally used by Muhammadans at the beginning of all actions and works). بسم الله کرنا bismi-l-lāh karnā, To begin, to com- mence. بسم الله هوا bismi-l-lāh hūʼā, Said of a child who has just commenced learning to read. بسما basmā A. (Arab. وسمه) s. m. Staining (par- ticularly, the beard: or women staining the legs, so as to have the appearance of being dressed in tight drawers, when they are in fact naked).
