شامخ shāmiḵẖ A part. act. (from شمخ) 1. High, elevated. 2. Proud.

محراب miḥrāb A (from حرب) s. f. 1. The prin- cipal place in a mosque where the priest prays before the people with his face turned towards Mecca. 2. The royal closet or chamber. 3. (In dakh.) Shelf, niche: see طاق t̤āḳ. محراب تيغ miḥrāb-i-teg̠ẖ, The curve or arch of a sci- mitar (as, the محراب is always arched).

محنت miḥnat A s. f. (dakh. s. m.) Labour, toil, industry, exercise, trouble, misfortune, difficulty, calamity, affliction, trial, temptation, perplexity, sorrow. محنت آباد miḥnat-ābād, Full of mise- ry. محنت زده miḥnat-zada, or محنت کش miḥnat-kash, adj. Enduring labour or trouble, afflicted. محنت کرنا miḥnat karnā, To labour, to toil. محنت کشي miḥnat-kash-ī, s. f. En- durance of labour or trouble, affliction. محنت کوپينا miḥnat ko pīnā (dakh. i. q. متحمل هونا) To endure, be patient (?). A. P. محنتانه miḥnat-āna, s. m. Hire, wages.

محنتي miḥnat-ī A. adj. Laborious, labouring, in- dustrious, difficult, unfortunate; labouring person.

محور miḥwar A (noun of instrument from حور) s. m. An axis.

محک miḥakk A (from حک) s. f. Touchstone, test.

مقدار miḳdār A (from قدر Heb. and Aram. ) s. m. Quantity, magnitude, measure, size, di- mension, space, number.

مقراض miḳrāẓ A (noun of instrument of قرض Heb. ) s. f. Scissors, shears.

مقط miḳat̤t̤ A (noun of instrum. of قطّ Chald. ) s. m. A piece of bone or bamboo on which they nib their writing-reeds or pens.

مقناطيس miḳnāt̤īs G. s. m. The magnet, the load- stone. See مغناطيس mig̠ẖnāt̤īs.

مقياس miḳyās A (noun of instrum. of قوس) s. m. 1. The style of a dial, gnomon, the hand of a watch, &c. 2. The Nilometer in Egypt.

وامق wāmiḳ A 1. part. act. (of ومق) A lover. 2. n. prop. Name of a most famous lover of عذرا aﻌẕrā.
