نرسنگا nar-singā नलशृंग S̱. s. m. A horn (mu- sical), a wind instrument. S. نرسنگهـ नरसिंह or नृसिंह nar-singh or nr̤i- singh, s. m. The name of the fourth Avatār or incarnation of Vish̤ṇu, which happened in the Satya-yuga, upon the following occasion. Hiranya-kasipu, an impious prince, was en- raged at his son Prahlād for worshipping the Almighty, and tried every means of destroying him, by poison, by throwing him into fire, into the ocean, &c. yet Prahlād lived. "If your God is present every where," says Hiranya- kasipu, "let him come from an alabaster pil- lar;" on which Nar-singha appeared, with the lower part of a man and the upper of a lion,
