آفات āfāt A s. plur. (of آفت) Calamities, mis- fortunes, evils, dangers.

التفات iltifāt A (inf. viii. of لفت Heb. He bent, inclined) s. f. Friendship, kindness, obli- gation, courtesy, respect, regard, attention; an apostrophe (in rhetorick). التفات کرنا iltifāt karnā, To attend to, to have regard or respect.

صفات ṣifāt A s. f. plur. of صفت ṣifat, q. v.

عرفات aﻌrafāt A s. Name of a place about twelve miles from Mecca, where the pilgrims halt.

فاتحه fātiḥa A (from فتح) 1. s. m. Commence- ment, exordium. 2. s. f. The first chapter or سوره of the ḳurʼān, which being repeated when praying for the souls of the dead, the word comes to mean prayers offered up in the name of saints, &c. and vulgarly oblations made to saints, &c.

فاطمه fāt̤ima A s. f. Name of Muhammadʼs daughter and wife of Ali.

مخافات maḵẖāfāt A s. plur. (of مخافة) Dreads, terrours.

مولفات muʼallafāt A (part. pass. II. plur. of الف) s. Compilations, writings.

مکافات mukāfāt A (inf. III. of کفي) s. f. Re- compense, retribution, retaliation, requital.

نفاط nafāt̤ A (from نفط) s. m. 1. Naphtha, bitu- men, or a place where it is found in plenty. 2. Lamp-oil.

وفات wafāt A (from وفي) s. f. Death, decease.
