ارچنا archanā S̱. 1. (अर्चन) v. a. To worship, adore, honour, treat with ceremony. 2. अर्चना s. f. Worship, the homage paid to deities, &c.

اپرچنڐ अप्रचंड a-prachanḍ S adj. Not violent, not strong or forcible, without dignity.

اچنچل अ and चंचल Moving a-chanchal S. adj. Fixed, unmoved, firm, inactive.

برچن birchan H s. m. Flour made from the fruit of the ber (Rhamnus jujuba).

بـﮩبچن बहुवचन bahu-bachan S adj. Plural.

بنس لوچن bans-lochan S (वंशालोचन) s. m. The manna or sugar of the bamboo. Arab. طباشير. (It has been found by analysis to contain much siliceous earth).

بهلاچنگا bhalā changā S̱. adj. In good order, in health, perfect, hale, well.

بهچن bhachan भक्षण S̱. s. m. Food, eating.

بهچنگ bhuchang भृंग S̱. s. m. Name of a bird. (Lanius cærulescens). See بهجنگا.

بچن bachan S (वचन r. वच Speak) s. m. Speech, talk, discourse, word, expression; pro- mise, agreement. بچن بندکرلينا bachan band- kar lenā or بچن بنده کرنا bachan bandh karnā, To bind by promise. بچن بنده هونا bachan bandh honā, To give oneʼs word, to promise, to be agreed upon. بچن پالنا bachan pālnā, To abide by a promise. بچن توڙنا bachan toṛnā, To break oneʼs word. بچن چهوڙنا bachan chhoṛnā, To break oneʼs promise. بچن دينا bachan denā, To promise, to agree. بچن ڐالنا bachan ḍālnā, To question, to ask, to inquire. بچن لينا bachan lenā, To receive a promise. بچن مارنا bachan mārnā, To conclude an agreement. بچن ماننا bachan mānnā, To obey. بچن نبهانا bachan ni- bhānā, To abide by a promise. بچن هارنا bachan hārnā, To promise, to agree, to give or pledge or plight oneʼs word, to affirm.

ترلوچن त्रिलोचन tri-lochan S (having) three eyes; s. m. The Hindū deity, Siva.

جنڐول chanḍol H s. m. 1. (corrupt. of چنڐاول chanḍāwal) The rear-guard. 2. A sort of se- dan. 3. The name of a bird. 4. A plaything consisting of four little earthen pots joined together.

خرچنگ ḵẖarchang P s. m. 1. A crab (fish). 2. A kind of herb. A. H. خرچو ḵẖarchū (from خرج) adj. Prodigal, expensive.

رام چندر रामचन्द्र Rāma-chandra S n. prop. Son of Dasaratha, and conqueror of Lankā or Ceylon. He was the seventh avatār; when the deity descended for the purpose of destroying Rāvaṇa, who, having obtained (for his devo- tion) a promise from Brahmā that he should not suffer death by any of the usual means, was become the tyrant and pest of mankind. The Devatās came in the shape of monkeys, as Rāvaṇa had gained no promise of safety from them; hence, Hanumāna was Rāmaʼs general. Rāmachandraʼs motherʼs name was Kausalyā. His younger brother Bharata was son of Ke- kayī, who was the cause of Rāmaʼs going to the desert to perform devotions, on the banks of the Pampā nadī, insisting that her son should reign the fourteen years that Rāma em- ployed in the devotion. It was while performing his devotion (or during his stay in the fo- rests) in company with Laksh̤maṇa (his brother by Sumitrā) that, while he was absent hunting, Rāvaṇa appeared as a beggar, and enticed away Sītā; which gave rise to the war detailed in the Rāmāyaṇa. Sītā was daughter of Rājā Janaka, who had promised to give her to any person who could break a certain bow; which
