استحاضه istiḥaẓa A (from حیض) s. m. Immode- rate flux of the menses.

افضل afẓal A adj. compar. (of فاضل) More or most excellent, preeminent.

افضلیت āfẓalīyat A s. f. Excellence, preemi- nence.

ايضا aiẓaṉ A adv. Again, also, as before, item.

بالضرورت bi-ẓ-ẓarūrat A adv. By necessity, ne- cessarily.

بيضه baiẓa A s. m. An egg.

بيضوي baiẓawī A (from بيضه) adj. Fashioned in the shape of an egg. خط بيضوي ḵẖat̤t̤-i-baiẓawī, s. m. A form of the Persian Nastaﻌlīḳ charac- ter, in which the curved tails of the letters are segments of an oval: opposed to خط آفتابي ḵẖat̤t̤-i-āftābī, in which they are portions of a circle.

تضرع taẓarruﻌ A (inf. v. of ضرع) s. m. 1. Suppli. cation. 2. Lamenting.

حضر ḥaẓar A s. m. A fixed residence, home, resting, remaining in a place, presence.

روضه rauẓa A (from راض) s. m. 1. A garden. 2. A mausoleum. روضه خوان rauẓa-ḵẖẉān, s. m. One who recites the praises of Ḥusain in the month muḥarram, an eulogist at the tomb of a saint or beloved person.

رياضت riyāẓat A (from راض Heb. To exer- cise, to tame, to run) s. f. Abstinence, austerity, abstemiousness. (Plur. رياضات).

رياضتي riyāẓat-ī A. s. m. A practiser of auste- rities, a devotee.

ض ẓad called ضاد معجمه and ضاد منقوطه the fif- teenth letter of the Arabic alphabet, does not occur in Persian, nor is there any corresponding letter in Sanskrit. In Persia and Hindū- stān its pronunciation is hardly distinguished from that of ز; but, in Arabia it is a mixed sound of d, th, and w, only to be acquired from natives of that country. In the notation of numbers by the Arabic letters, it stands for 800. It is one of the radical letters. The د of Per- sian words, when they are introduced into Ara- bic, is often changed into this letter, as ضحاک for ده آک See under ح. When three of these letters meet together, as in تقضّض the darting of a hawk upon his prey, the last is changed into ي, as تقضي. And in verbs of the measure افتعال the servile ت after this letter is changed to ط or to ض as اضطراب or اضّراب from ضرب.

ضبط ẓabt̤ A s. m. Government, direction, disci- pline, regulation, check, control, possession. ضبط کرنا ẓabt̤ karnā, To take possession, seize, confiscate, rule over, watch, preserve, restrain, control, check. ضبط هونا ẓabt̤ honā, To be taken possession of, to be seized, &c.

ضبطي ẓabt̤-ī A. 1. s. f. Confiscation, sequestration. 2. adj. Confiscated.
