اصول uṣūl A s. plur. (of اصل) Roots, causes; a musical mode or tone. اصول وفروغ uṣūl wa furūﻌ, f. Roots and branches, causes and effects.

حصول ḥuṣūl A (from حصل) s. m. Acquisition, at- tainment, profit, advantage, produce.

خصور ḵẖuṣūr A s. plur. (of خصر) Middles of men, waists.

خصوص ḵẖuṣūṣ A (from خصّ see خاص) s. m. 1. An affair, business, thing, particular. 2. Doing any thing particular. 3. adv. Particularly.

خصوصا ḵẖuṣūṣaṉ A adv. Particularly, especially.

خصوصيت ḵẖuṣūṣiyat A s. f. Peculiarity, parti- cularity, singularity, attachment, friendship.

خصومت ḵẖuṣūmat A (from خصم) s. f. Enmity, quarrelling, contention, strife.

صوبه ṣūba A s. m. 1. A province. 2. A governour. (Term peculiar to Hindūstān). A.P. صوبه دار ṣūba-dār, s. m. 1. The chief, viceroy, or lieutenant of a province. 2. A military offi- cer among Indian troops, whose rank corres- ponds to that of captain. A.P. صوبه داري ṣūba-dār-ī, s. f. The office of lieu- tenant of a province, the government of a صوبه ṣūba or province.

صور ṣūr A s. f. A kind of musical instrument, a horn, a trumpet. ¶ ṣūr, ṣuwar, or ṣiwar, s. plur. of صورت ṣūrat, q. v.

صورت ṣūrat A (from ii. of صار Heb. and Aram. To form, to fashion) s. f. 1. Form, figure, shape, face, countenance, fashion, appearance, probability, portrait. 2. Manner. 3. Condi- tion, state, case, circumstance. درصورت dar ṣūrat, or درصورتيکه dar-ṣūrate-ki, In case, provided that. صورت آشنا ṣūrat-āshnā, An ac- quaintance. صورت آشناٴي ṣūrat-āshnā-ī, s. f. Acquaintance. صورت پذير ṣūrat-paẕīr, Assuming or receiving form. صورت پذيرهونا ṣūrat- paẕīr honā, To come to pass, to come into exis- tence. صورت حال ṣūrat-i-ḥāl, s. f. A state- ment, form or state of condition or case, written declaration. صورت حرام ṣūrat-ḥarām, Plau- sible, whose appearance promises much more than events will justify, specious, superficial, fair without and foul within. صورت گر ṣūrat- gar, Painter, sculptor, limner.

صوره ṣūra A. s. See صورت ṣūrat.

صوري ṣūrī A adj. Exterior, external, apparent.

صوف ṣūf A s. m. Wool, and the word is applied to silk, thread, and cotton.

صوفي ṣūfī A 1. adj. Wise. (From Gr. sofos; or, from being clothed in woollen: Gol.). 2. s. m. A sofi or ṣūfī. (Pers. plur. صوفيان). 3. adj. Woollen.

صوفيه ṣūfīya A s. The ṣūfīs or sect of ṣūfīs.
