هاتهہ hāth हस्त S̱. s. m. 1. The hand. 2. A cubit. 3. Possession, power. هاتهہ آنا hāth ānā, To come into oneʼs possession or power, to be gained or obtained. هاتهہ اٿهانا hāth uṭhānā, 1. To leave off, refrain from, desist, abandon, relinquish, resign, cease. 2. To salute by raising the hand to the head. Both these meanings are alluded to in the following example. Muṣ- t̤afạ̄ ḵẖān Yakrang says: هاتهہ اٿها جوراورجفا سي تو يہي گويا سلام هي تيرا Hāth uṭhā jaur aur jafā se tū; yih-ī goyā salām hai terā. Restrain thy hands from vio- lence and injustice; this is thy salutation. 3. To beat. 4. To give alms. هاتهہ اوٿ لينا hāth oṭ lenā, To receive with both hands open and stretched out together. هاتهہ باندهنا hāth-bāndh- nā, To join the hands in a supplicating posture. هاتهہ بڙهانا hāth baṛhānā, 1. To endeavour to get any thing. 2. To gain possession of the property of others. هاتهہ بند هونا hāth band honā, 1. To be much engaged in business, to have no leisure. 2. To be poor or indigent. هاتهہ بهرنا hāth bharnā, To have the hands wearied or fatigued. هاتهہ بيٿهنا hāth baiṭhnā, To acquire perfection in any art by practice. هاتهہ پانوپهول جاني hāth pāṅw phūl jāne (lit. The hands and feet to become swelled) To be distressed or confounded. هاتهہ پانوپهيلانا hāth pāṅw phailānā, To extend oneʼs business or schemes. هاتهہ پانو يا پيومارنا hāth-pāṅw or -pair mārnā, 1. To strive, to endeavour, to strain, toil,

Sleight of hand (in a money changer), changing a good for a bad rupee for the purpose of imposition. 2. Borrowing. هتهہ پهيرلينا hath-pher lenā, To borrow. هتهہ جهولا hath-jholā, A hand-barrow. هتهہ چپوا hath-chapūʼā, Snack, share. هتهہ چهوٿ hath-chhūṭ, A beater. هتهکٿي hath-kaṭ-ī, Name of a cut with the sword, which is intended to take off or disable the adversaryʼs hand. هتهہ کڙي hath-kaṛī, s. f. A handcuff, fetter, ma- nacle. هتهہ ليوا hath-lewā, s. m. A ceremony in marriage among Hindūs. (The hands of the bride and bridegroom are joined palm to palm with some flour put between them, and tied with a red thread). هتهنال hath-nāl, s. f. A small cannon carried on elephants, &c.
