آدمیت ādmīyat A s. f. Humanity, civility. آدمیت پکڙنا ādmīyat pakaṛnā, To become ci- vilized. آدمیت سکهلانا ādmīyat sikhlānā, or آدمیت مین لانا ādmīyat meṅ lānā, To civilize. آدمیت کرنا ādmīyat karnā, To behave with humanity.

آرامیده ārāmīda P adj. At rest, at ease.

آمی आमय āmaya S s. m. Sickness, disease.

آمیز āmez P part. (of آمیختن) in compos. Mixed, mixing. s. m. Mixture.

آمیزش āmez-ish P s. f. Mixture, mixing, sociableness, intercourse, temperament.

آگمیه अगम्य a-gamya S (see اگم agam) adj. Impassable, deep, bottomless, inaccessible, im- pervious.

ارمیده āramīda P adj. At rest, reposed. (Plur. ارمیدگان āramīdagān).

استفہامیه istifhām-iya A adj. Interrogative.

استمیهہ स्तम्भ istambh S or stambh, s. m. The trunk of a tree, a column, pile, post, pillar.

اسلامیه islāmiya A adj. Faithful, orthodox. H. S̱. اسل پسل جانا usal pusal jānā, v. n. To be agitated, to be tossed, to get into confusion.

اسمین a-samaiṅ S̱. adv. Out of season. S. آسن आसन (r. आस Sit) āsan, s. m. 1. A stool, a seat, a small carpet on which the Hindūs sit at prayer, a carpet to sit on. 2. Stay, abiding, posture, attitude, sitting (espe- cially, the attitudes adopted by jogīs in their devotional exercises, of which they enumerate eighty-four). 3. The inside or under part of the thigh. 4. The withers of an elephant, the part where the driver sits. آسن تلي آنا āsan tale ānā, To come under subjection. آسن حوڙنا āsan joṛnā, To sit on the hams. آسن ڐولنا āsan ḍolnā, Spoken of a holy man, who perceiving by supernatural intelligence that some one in distress has called on him, interposes in his behalf. آسن سي آسن جوڙنا āsan se āsan joṛnā, To sit close in contact with another person. آسن لگانا āsan lagānā, To sit obstinately in a given posture till oneʼs request be obtained. آسن مارنا

اشومیده अश्वमेध ashwa-medh S s. m. The ce- remony of sacrificing a horse. S. اشوني अश्विनी ashwinī, s. f. Name of the first lunar mansion. See اسوني aswinī.

اطمینان it̤mīnān A (inf. iv. of طمأن) s. f. Tran- quillity, rest, repose, quiet, content, security. اطمینان خاطر it̤mīnān-i-ḵẖāt̤ir, Peace of mind.

امامیه imāmiya A (Followers) of the Imām; name of a Muhammadan sect, who make Alī the rightful imām immediately after Muhammad.

امید umed P or ummed or ummaid, s. f. Hope, expectation, trust, dependence; (in Hind.) preg- nancy. امیدسي ummed se, Pregnant.
