اصول uṣūl A s. plur. (of اصل) Roots, causes; a musical mode or tone. اصول وفروغ uṣūl wa furūﻌ, f. Roots and branches, causes and effects.

تصوف taṣauwuf A (inf. v. of صوف) s. m. The theology of the ṣūfīs or mysticks of the east; mystery, contemplation.

تصوير taṣwīr A (inf. ii. of صورت) s. f. A picture, portrait, an image. تصويرخانه taṣwīr-khāna, A picture-gallery. تصويربنانا or تصويرکهينچنا taṣwīr banānā or taṣwīr khaiṅchnā, To draw, &c. to paint. (Arab. plur. تصويرات).

خصومت ḵẖuṣūmat A (from خصم) s. f. Enmity, quarrelling, contention, strife.

صوف ṣūf A s. m. Wool, and the word is applied to silk, thread, and cotton.

صوفي ṣūfī A 1. adj. Wise. (From Gr. sofos; or, from being clothed in woollen: Gol.). 2. s. m. A sofi or ṣūfī. (Pers. plur. صوفيان). 3. adj. Woollen.

صوفيه ṣūfīya A s. The ṣūfīs or sect of ṣūfīs.

صولت ṣaulat A s. f. Fury, viclence, impetuosity.

صوم ṣaum A (Heb. ) 1. s. m. Fasting, a fast. 2. One who fasts. 3. A christian church. 4. adj. Silent. صوم صلوة ṣaum ṣalāt, s. f. Fasting and prayer.

صومعه ṣaumaʼaﻌ A s. m. A monastery.

قيصوم ḳaiṣūm A s. m. Southernwood. (Artemi- sia abrotanum).

محصول maḥṣūl A (part. pass. of حصل) s. m. Tax, duty, excise, custom, postage, produce of any thing, income, revenue.

معصوم maﻌṣūm A (part. pass. of عصم Heb. and Chald. ) adj. 1. Defended, preserved. 2.

معصوميت maﻌṣūm-īyat A. s. f. 1. Innocence, simplicity. 2. Infancy.
