آهت आहुति āhut S or āhuti, s. f. A burnt offering, offering oblations by fire to the deities.

ات ut H adv. There, thither.

ات उत् ut S prep. Up, upwards, on high, over, above. It implies superiority in place and de- gree, and is the reverse of अध adha.

اتار utār S̱. s. m. Descent, declination. اتار دینا utār denā, To bring down; (met.) to disgrace, to dishonour.

اتارا utārā S̱. (from اتارنا utārnā, q. v.) s. m. A descent, crossing or passing (over a river, &c): an answer: cast off clothes: disgrace, degrada- tion: ransom, self-devotion.

اتارن utāran S̱. 1. s. f. A fragment. 2. See اتارنا.

اتارنا utārnā S̱. (caus. of اترنا) v. a. 1. To cause to alight or descend, to bring down; to degrade. 2. To cause to pass over, to convey over. 3. To take off, to strip off, to tear off, cut off or break off (a portion of any thing), to unload, disem- bark, dismount, discharge. 4. To make a re- turn or recompense. اتاري هوئي utāre hūʼe, En- gaged with a desperate resolution in any enter- prise (metaphor taken from cavalry, who dis- mount to fight on foot with a determination to

اتاول utāwal H s. f. Quickness, speed, despatch.

اتاولا utāʼolā H adj. m. Swift, quick, speedy, pre- cipitate, rash.

اتاولي utāʼolī H adj. f. Swift, &c.; s. f. Haste, speed, rashness, impatience.

اتر उत्तर उत् and r. तृ Cross, pass over ut- tar S. s. m. An answer, the north. adj. Pos- terior, latter, northern, superiour, high. उत्तरार्ध uttarārdh, The latter half.

اترا uttar-ā S̱. (उत्तरान् Northward) adj. North- ern, northerly; s. f. North wind, boreas.

اترانا utrānā S̱. (caus. of اترنا q. v.) v. a. 1. To take down or pull down (by the hands of a third person; as, to do it oneʼs self, is اتارنا utārnā). 2. To boil over.

اتراون uttarāwan S̱. s. m. A place to which fish throng.
