اسلاف aslāf A s. plur. (of سلف) Ancestors.

اسلام islām A (inf. iv. of سلم Heb. and Ch. Was safe, entire, at peace) s. m. The Mu- hammadan religion, orthodoxy (according to Muhammadans), islāmism.

اسلامي islām-ī A s. m. f. A Muhammadan, a believer. (Pers. plur. اسلامیان islāmiyān).

اسلامیه islāmiya A adj. Faithful, orthodox. H. S̱. اسل پسل جانا usal pusal jānā, v. n. To be agitated, to be tossed, to get into confusion.

اسلوب uslūb A (or vulg. aslūb) s. m. Manner, mode, method: order, arrangement: form. اسلوبدار uslūb-dār, adj. Well-arranged, well- proportioned, elegant. H. S̱. اسلیي is-liye, For this reason, hence, because.

بانسلي bāṅslī S̱. s. f. 1. A flute, &c.: see بانسري bāṅsrī. 2. A purse: see بسني basnī.

تسلا taslā H s. m. A vessel used by Hindūs to dress their victuals.

تسليم taslīm A (inf. ii. of سلم) s. f. 1. Delivery, consignment, cession, surrender, resignation. 2. Recommending to the care or protection of another. 3. Saluting most respectfully, homage, obeisance. 4. Health, security. (Plur. تسليمات taslīmāt). تسليمات بجالانا taslīmāt ba-jā lānā, To make obeisances. تسليم کرنا taslīm karnā, To resign, surrender, cede, commit, consign: to salute (most respectfully), to make obeisance, to homage, to do homage. تسليم هونا taslīm honā, To be resigned or committed.

رسل rasl A s. m. Sending news. ¶ rusul or rusl, plur. (of رسول) Prophets, messengers. رسل رسايل rasl-rasāʼịl, Epistolary correspondence.

سليش श्लेष slesh̤ S s. m. A pun, a double meaning, an equivoque in writing or speaking; as, کيکرپاکرتارجامن پهل سا املا سيوکدم کچنارپيپل رتي تونتج Kīkar pākar tār, jāman phalsā āmilā; seʼo kadam kachnār, pīpal rattī tūna taj. (This seems to be a catalogue of trees; it also means) God has been kind to you; that which you de- sired is obtained; adore his footsteps; silly woman! leave not your lover for a moment.

غسل g̠ẖusl A s. m. Bathing, ablution. غسل خانه g̠ẖusl-ḵẖāna, s. m. A bath, bagnio.

مسلخ maslaḵẖ A (noun of place of سلخ) s. f. A slaughterhouse, shambles.

مسلم muslim A (part. act. IV. of سلم Heb. ) s. m. A musalmān, Muhammadan. (Plur. مسلمين muslimīn). ¶ musallim (part. act. II.) adj. Keeping safe, preserving in liberty. ¶ mu- sallam (part. pass. II.) adj. 1. Preserved, kept, committed, sound, safe, entire, whole, certain. 2. Free, exempted from.

مسله masla A. (for مسأله from سأل Heb. and Aram. ) s. m. Question, proposition, problem, a precept of Muḥammad.
