باج bāj P s. m. f. A tax, duty, toll, impost, &c. tribute. باجدار bāj-dār, A tax-gatherer, a col- lector of tribute or revenue. باج گذار bāj-guzār, One who pays taxes, duties, &c.

باج bāj H (perhaps for Pers. باز Back, &c.) post- pos. In the separation or absence, besides. Walī says, تجهـ باج جان ودل کون نشاط وطرب نهين In thy absence there is neither joy nor mirth for my soul and heart.

باجا bājā वाद्य S̱. s. m. A musical instrument.

باجرا bājrā H s. m. A kind of grain so called, Indian corn. (Holcus spicatus).

ججهاؤ باجنا jujhāʼū bājnā S̱. (from युद्घ &c.) v. n. Warlike instruments in battle to sound.

ديباجه dībāja A s. m. Preface, exordium, intro- duction, preamble.

گاجا باجا gājā bājā S̱. s. m. The sound or clan- gour of various musical instruments. See باجا bājā (which latter word often precedes).
