ابوهریره abū huraira A (father of the cat, because he was in the habit of carrying a cat with him) n. prop. One of the companions of Muhammad.

بحيره buḥaira A (dimin. of بحر) s. m. A small sea, a lake.

بهونڐ پيرا bhūnḍ pairā H adj. Unlucky, ill-omened.

بهيرو भैरव bhairav S s. m. A name of Siva, but more especially of an inferiour form or mani- festation of that deity. H. P. بـﮩ‍يروبنه bahīr o buna, The baggage of an army.

بهيرون bhairoṅ भैरव S̱. s. m. 1. The name of a rāg or musical mode sung at dawn in autumn. (It is represented by Mahādeva with the Ganges flowing from his head and the rāg issuing from that deityʼs mouth). 2. A name of Siva; see بهيرو bhairav.

بهيروي भैरवी bhairavī S s. f. The name of a rāginī, the wife of bhairoṅ rāg.

بير bair S (वैर) s. m. Enmity, hostility, ani- mosity, revenge. بيرلينا bair lenā, v. a. To re- venge.

بيراگ bairāg S or bairāgya (वैराग्य) s. m. Penance, devotion, the act of leaving the plea- sures of the world.

بيراگا bairāgā S̱. (from वैरागी) s. m. A small crooked stick, which a bairāgī places under his arm-pit to lean upon as he sits.

بيراگن bairāgan वैरागिणी S̱. s. f. 1. A fe- male bairāgī. 2. Same as بيراگا q. v.

بيراگي bairāgī S (वैरागी) s. m. 1. The religious ascetick, or he who abandons terrestrial objects, thoughts, passions, &c. 2. A kind of wandering faḳīr who practices certain austerities.

بيرق bairaḳ P s. m. Banner, ensign, colours.

بيرن bairan वैरिणी S̱. s. f. A female enemy.

بيري bairī S (वैरी) s. m. An enemy, foe.
