صفر ṣafar A or ṣafaru-l-muz̤affar, s. m. The se- cond month of the Muhammadan year. (On the 20th day of this month is held the festival of Sarotan, in commemoration of the junction of the head and body of Ḥusain. The 28th and the last days of this month are reckoned unfortunate; the former on account of Ḥasanʼs being poisoned by his wife; the latter because destructive vegetables are supposed to be pro- duced on that day). ¶ ṣifr, s. m.
