آتم ātm आत्मन् S̱. s. m. Soul, self. (much used in the composition of Hindawī words; as) آتم پالک ātm-pālak, Selfish; آتم گهات ātm-ghāt, Self-murder; آتم نامي ātm-nāmī, Self-evident.

آدهان आधान आ and r. धा Hold ā-dhān S. s. m. 1. A ceremony practised as conducive to conception. 2. Conception, pregnancy.

آسمنتات आसमन्तात् आ, सम् and अन्त End āsamantāt S. adv. All around, on every side; wholly, altogether.

آسن āsin आश्विन S̱. s. m. The sixth Hindū month, in which the moon is full near the stars in the head of Aries. September--October. S. آسن (असन or) आसन āsan, s. m. The name of a tree on which the tasar silk-worm feeds. (Terminalia alata tomentosa). S. اسن अशन (r. अश Eat) asan, s. m. Eating, food: also, the tree last described.

آسین आसीन āsīn S adj. Sitting, seated. S̱. اسینچا (अ and r. षिच Sprinkle) a-sīnchā, adj. Not watered, not irrigated (a field, &c.).

آلان आलान ālān S s. m. The post to which an elephant is tied, or the rope that ties him.

آلنگن आलिंगन ālingan S s. m. Embracing, the clasping any one in the arms.

آندو āndū अन्दू S̱. s. m. The chain or rope with which the feet of elephants are tied up.

آنن आनन आ and r. अन Breathe ānan S. s. m. Mouth, face, visage.

آنند आनन्द आ and r. नदि Rejoice ā- nand S. (or a-nand) s. m. f. Happiness, joy, plea- sure, delight, felicity. آنندکند ānand-kand, Root (or source) of happiness. S. اننگ अनंग (अन् and अंग Body, i. e. Bodi- less, because this deity was reduced to ashes by the eye of Siva for having disturbed his devo- tions, and rendered him enamoured of Pārvatī) an-ang, s. m. Kāma, the Hindū god of love.

آنک आनक ānak S s. m. A large military drum beaten at one end, a kettledrum.

آهنک आह्निक āhnik S (from अहन् Day) s. m. Daily work, daily ceremonies of religion.

آهوان आह्वान āhvān S s. m. Calling, summons.

آپن आपन्न आ and r. पद Go ā-panna S. adj. Unfortunate, afflicted: gained, obtained, ac- quired: a refugee, one who comes for shelter or protection.

آچمن आचमन āchaman S s. m. Act of sip- ping a little water from the palm of the hand by way of purification.
