الوف ulūf A adj. plur. (of الف) Thousands.

تصوف taṣauwuf A (inf. v. of صوف) s. m. The theology of the ṣūfīs or mysticks of the east; mystery, contemplation.

توفير taufīr A (inf. ii. of وفر or وفور) s. f. In- creasing, perfecting.

توفيق taufīḳ A (inf. ii. of وفق) s. f. The com- pletion of oneʼs wishes, the divine grace, the favour of God, prosperity. (Plur. توفيقات tau- fīḳāt).

جوف jauf A s. m. The interiour cavity (of any thing; hence, a drum called مجوف mujauwaf), concavity, hollow.

خسوف ḵẖusūf A (from خسف) s. m. An eclipse of the moon.

خوف ḵẖauf A s. m. Fear. خوف رجا ḵẖauf rajā, s. m. (Fear and hope) Suspense. خوف کرنا ḵẖauf karnā, To fear. خوف ناک ḵẖauf- nāk, adj. 1. Frightful, terrifying. 2. Frightened, afraid, terrified. خوفناکي ḵẖauf-nāk-ī, s. f. Terrour, panick, fright, alarm.

سفوف safūf A (from سفّ To take a medicine in a state of powder and dry) s. m. A medicine taken dry and unmixed, a powder (in opposi- tion to an electuary).

سوفار sūfār P s. m. and f. The notch of an arrow, the eye of a needle.

شکوفه skikūfa P s. m. A flower, bud.

شگوفه shugūfa P or shigūfa, or (in Hind.) shagū- fa, s. m. A flower, a bud. شگوفه لانا shugūfa lānā, 1. To bud, to put forth young shoots. 2. To produce something new and wonderful.

صفوف ṣufūf A s. plur. (of صف) Lines, ranks, rows.

صوف ṣūf A s. m. Wool, and the word is applied to silk, thread, and cotton.

صوفي ṣūfī A 1. adj. Wise. (From Gr. sofos; or, from being clothed in woollen: Gol.). 2. s. m. A sofi or ṣūfī. (Pers. plur. صوفيان). 3. adj. Woollen.

صوفيه ṣūfīya A s. The ṣūfīs or sect of ṣūfīs.
