استعاره istiāﻌra A (inf. x. of عاریت) s. m. Bor- rowing; using a word metaphorically; a me- taphor. استعاره کرنا istiāﻌra karnā, To beseech, to beg earnestly.

تعارف taʼāﻌruf A (inf. vi. of عرف) s. m. 1. Mu- tual acquaintance. 2. Rule, fashion, custom.

شعاري shiʼāﻌr-ī A adj. Of or relating to cus- tom, &c.

عارف āﻌrif A (part. act. of عرف) 1. adj. Wise, sagacious, ingenious, pious, devout. 2. s. m. A holy man. (Plur. عرفا uﻌrafā or عارفين āﻌri- fīn). A.P. عارفانه āﻌrif-āna, adv. Wisely, acutely, piously, devoutly. adj. Wise, pious.

عاري āﻌrī A (part. act. of عري Heb. ) adj. Naked, void of, free from.

عاريت āﻌriyat A (from عور) s. f. Borrowing or lending any thing which is itself to be returned. See ادهار udhār.

عاريتي āﻌriyat-ī A adj. 1. Borrowed, lent. 2. Factitious, not oneʼs own.

متعارف mutaʼāﻌraf A part. pass. (VI. of عرف) Known, mutually known.

معارف maʼāﻌrif A s. plur. (of معرفة) Knowledges.
