دهوني dhūnī S̱. (from धूम) s. f. 1. Persevering. 2. Smoke. 3. A fire lighted by a Hindū faḳīr, over which he sits, imbibing the smoke, by way of penance. It is often practised by them, in the manner of dharnā, to extort compliance with their demands. Hence دهوني دينا dhūnī denā, To dun, to importune: to smoke. دهوني لگاني dhūnī lagānī, To insist obstinately, or to persevere in a demand. 4. Fumigation by way of exorcising one possessed; or, as a medical application. دهوني لينا dhūnī lenā, To inhale smoke, or undergo fumigation.
