آحاد āhād A s. plur. (of احد) The units, ones.

اتحاد ittiḥād A (inf. viii. of وحد Heb. Was one) s. m. Union, amity, concord, friendship.

احادیث aḥādīs̤ A s. f. (plur. of حدیث) Tradi- tions, (particularly) the traditions or sayings of Muhammad.

احاطه iḥāt̤a A (inf. iv. of حوط) s. f. A surrounding, an enclosure, a fence (but generally ap- plied to a space enclosed or surrounded), com- prehension, compass, circuit, besieging. احاطه کرنا iḥāt̤a karnā, To surround, enclose, fence, be- siege, blockade, invest, to comprehend.

استحاضه istiḥaẓa A (from حیض) s. m. Immode- rate flux of the menses.

اصحاب aṣʼḥāb A s. plur. (of صاحب) Lords, mas- ters, grandees, companions, friends, apostles. (In composition the word signifies) Possessed of; as اصحاب علم aṣʼḥāb-i-iﻌlm, Learned men, &c.

الحاح ilḥāḥ A (inf. iv. of لحّ) s. f. Solicitation, urgency, importunity, importunate entreaty.

الحاد ilḥād A (inf. iv. of لحد) s. Irreligion, im- piety, heresy, unbelief, apostasy, atheism.

بحار biḥār A s. plur. (of بحر) Seas. P.A. بحال ba-ḥāl, In state or condition; adj. Un- altered, happy, flourishing, in office, reinstated, restored. بحال کرنا ba-ḥāl karnā, To reinstate, reestablish, replace, restore. P.A. بحالي ba-ḥāl-ī, s. f. Prosperity, restoration, re- instatement, being in office or favour.

تحاشي taḥāshī A (from حشي) s. 1. Exception, putting aside. 2. (perhaps, for تخاشي) Fear.

حاتم ḥātim A (from حتم Heb. To seal, to sign, to confirm, to decide, to judge) part. act. used substantively, 1. A judge. 2. A

حاجب ḥājib A (from حجب q. v.) s. m. 1. A porter, a door-keeper, a chamberlain. 2. A curtain, a skreen. 3. The eyebrow.

حاجت ḥājat A (from حاج Heb. Moved round, frequented, stood in need of) s. f. 1. Need, want, necessity, poverty. 2. Hope, wish. حاجت برآر ḥājat-bar-ār, Producing what is wanted or desired. حاجت رفع کرنا ḥājat rafﻌ karnā, 1. To relieve oneʼs neces- sities. 2. To go to the necessary. حاجت مند ḥājat-mand, adj. 1. Necessitous, indigent. 2. Hoping, depending. حاجت روا ḥājat-rawā, adj. Supplying or obtaining what is needed. حاجت رواٴي ḥajat-rawā-ī, s. f. The obtaining what is wanted or needed. (Plur. حاجات).

حاجي ḥājī A (part. act. from حجّ Heb. He turned round, danced, celebrated a festival; pe- culiarly, performed the pilgrimage to Mecca) s. m. A pilgrim to Mecca. حاجي الحرمين ḥājiyu-l-ḥaramain, A pilgrim to both Mecca and Medīna. (Plur. حجاج).
